Name and Logo of Domino's Pizza

Established in 1961 and headquartered at the Domino's Farms Office Park in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Domino's is an American multinational pizza restaurant chain founded in 1960.

Name

Tom Monaghan and James (Tom's brother) acquired the functioning of a surviving location of a small pizza restaurant chain - DomiNick's. Both of them after taking over the restaurant planned to split the work evenly but James did not wanted to leave his full time job as a postman and as a result, he traded his half of the business to Tom for Volkswagen Beetle from which they used to deliver their pizzas.
Till 1965, Tom bought two more pizzerias and now he had a total of three locations. Tom wanted the stores to share the similar branding, but the original owner didn't allow him to use the name DomiNick's. Jim Kennedy, one of the employee returned after delivering an order and proposed the name Domino's. Tom liked this recommendation and officially relabeled the business Domino's Pizza, Inc. in 1965.

Logo

Domino's logo initially has 3 dots representing the three stores Domino's had in 1965 and Tom planned to add 1 dot every time a new store will be added in their chain. But this plan had to be dropped because Domino's experienced a swift progress and it was not possible to add so many dots in the logo. So the company hold on to its initial idea of 3 dots representing their beginning.
